Visa & Travel Requirements
U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short tourist visits to France. Here’s what you should know if you’re planning to travel:
- Americans can visit France and other Schengen Area countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business without a visa.
- You must have a valid U.S. passport; it’s recommended that your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area.
- Border officials may ask for proof of onward travel or a return ticket, evidence of accommodation, and sufficient funds for your stay upon arrival.
- France is part of the Schengen Area, so your time in France counts toward the 90-day limit for all Schengen countries combined. If you plan to visit other countries in the area, make sure you do not exceed the 90-day total.
- Beginning in 2025, U.S. travelers will need to obtain ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) approval online before arrival in France or other Schengen countries. The process is simple and similar to the U.S. ESTA.
RV Parking in Paris
Although it may not always be easy, it is possible to find a place to park in the streets of Paris. Paid parking is available from 9 am to 8 pm, except on Sundays and public holidays. If you don’t have the correct change for the parking meter, you can pay by credit card or via the parking apps almost everywhere. The advantage of paying with your phone is that you don’t need to set the length of time in advance.
Alternatively, follow the signs to a multi-story covered car park, many of which are also accessible to cars up to 6 ½ feet, so choose to rent a VW California for example, and you will have no problems getting around the city! If you are travelling in an RV or camper van, there are several special underground car parks, but we recommend that you leave your vehicle at the campground or at a station on the outskirts of town and use public transport to visit the city center. You can also park for free near the Bois de Vincennes and Bois de Boulogne, but please note that these campgrounds are not supervised.
