Important visa information

Please ensure that you have the necessary visa before travelling. The following guide applies to all UK and EU citizens, including those from Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, and Croatia:

  • If you are planning a road trip through the USA, you will require a USA visa or an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation).
  • If you begin your trip in the USA and travel to Canada, having a USA visa or ESTA is sufficient. You do not need a Canadian visa to enter the country by land.

Best time to hire a campervan in Los Angeles

You can enjoy a visit to Los Angeles throughout the year, as the weather remains relatively pleasant. Summers can be quite hot, particularly if you’re camping away from the Pacific coast. During this time, it’s perfect for a relaxing beachside getaway for couples or an exhilarating surfing adventure with a close friend. However, please note that due to the extreme heat experienced inland during the summer, roadsurfer RV rentals are not allowed in Death Valley, except in the winter months. Winters in LA are generally mild, but mountainous areas like the stunning Sierra Nevadas, where Yosemite National Park is located, can get significantly colder. Therefore, plan your road trip accordingly and be prepared for colder temperatures (and snow) in those regions. Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons to visit as the temperatures are pleasant, and the national parks are less crowded. If you’re planning a longer road trip to other states, ensure that you check their current requirements, such as the need for snow chains, as they are not provided.

Water tank services near Los Angeles

When setting off on your journey, locating water fill-up stations for your RV within the city of Los Angeles can be challenging. Once you are beyond the city limit, it will be much easier finding such stations. When returning your RV rental, you must empty your waste and grey water. The nearest service station is a short 15-minute drive away, where you can dispose of your grey water tank. Please note that this station has limited operating hours, typically open for only 2-3 hours per day.

  • 7660 West Imperial Highway, Playa Del Rey, CA 90293

Due to the limited operating hours, we recommend staying in a campsite that provides those facilities before finishing your road trip.

Petrol stations near our L.A. location

When you hire an RV in Los Angeles, pease ensure the fuel tank is topped up shortly before returning your motorhome rental. Depending on the camper model, petrol or diesel and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) are required. Please check in advance which fuel your camper requires. Failure to return the tanks full may result in a service fee. DEF is available at most Walmart and Target locations. These are the closest petrol stations near our location:

  • MOBIL, 4750 W Rosecrans Ave, Hawthorne, CA. 90250
  • 76 Gas Station, 4773 W El Segundo Blvd, Hawthorne, CA 90250

Parking in Los Angeles

There is street parking available, but with regular street sweeping on Mondays and Tuesdays, it’s not the best option and not the safest. If you are looking to park your vehicle while you are on your roadsurfer RV adventure, you can find many long-term parking options at the Los Angeles International Airport, which is just a 15-minute taxi journey from our Los Angeles station.

Last-minute essentials near our L.A. location

Make sure to stock up on any last-minute essentials before hitting the road. If you are looking for groceries, there are several Ralphs supermarkets located within a 5 to 10-minute drive of the Los Angeles station. You can also find several Trader Joe’s around the greater Los Angeles area. For other general supplies, Walmart and Target are just down the road. It should be easy to find whatever you need around Los Angeles.

Coffee shops near our L.A. location

If you are in need of a bit of caffeine and food after your long travel journey before setting out on your roadsurfer adventure, there is a delicious French bakery and café called Le Pain Du Jour Bakery across the street from the Los Angeles station. It’s a great place to pick up some croissants and coffee to enjoy right away or take with you on the road.

Camping near Los Angeles

There are plenty of campsite possibilities near Los Angeles once you get just outside the city. If you plan on driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, you can escape the big city by staying at Malibu Creek Campsite in Malibu Creek State Park or Malibu Beach RV Park which is just off the PCH with stunning views of the pacific ocean, or staying within walking distance of the beach at Leo Carrillo State Park Campground. If you prefer to go hiking on trails like the Pacific Crest Trail, you can try Buckhorn Campground, or Manker Flats Campground, in Angeles National Forest. If a Disneyland visit is more your style, check out Anaheim Harbor RV Park. There are so many campsites to choose from but here are a few more we recommend:

  • Dockweiler RV Park – panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from Malibu to Catalina Island, plus great amenities and entertainment
  • Bonelli Bluffs RV Resort and Campground – near San Dimas and Lake Puddington Reservoir with beautiful mountain views
  • Rancho Oso RV and Camping Resort – beautiful scenery near Santa Barbara with a wide variety of entertainment activities
  • Sycamore Canyon Campground – no shortage of things to do in Point Magu State Park, from relaxing on the beach, hiking and mountain biking routes, as well as a 200-foot sand dune

Please be aware that campsites in and around Los Angeles, as well as throughout California, can become fully booked during the peak seasons. To secure your desired campsite, we highly recommend making reservations up to 6 months in advance. This will ensure that you have the best chances of securing a spot for your road trip adventure.
