Motorhome & Campervan Hire in Faro

The weather is warm, sunny, and dry year-round in the Algarve, so the ideal time to rent a campervan in Faro is whenever you want! If you’re planning a winter escape, make sure to check that the campsites on your route are open ahead of time as some do close for the season. Planning ahead for where to sleep is also recommended for the summer when the region is at its busiest, but visit in Spring and Autumn (April-May and September-October), and you’ll find far fewer crowds (and still plenty of sunshine!). Cultural events like festivals, concert, and performances happen year-round in Faro and the surrounding area, so check out what will be happening when you’re there.

When you hire a campervan in Faro, you’ll need to fill up with freshwater at the beginning of your trip and empty your grey water before you return your campervan. This can usually be done at campsites, but if you need somewhere close to the roadsurfer station, here are two options:

• Area de Servico da Quinta da Palmeria, R. da Palmeira 29, Albufeira – 30-minutes west of the roadsurfer station.
• Intermarché, Quelfes, 8700-221 Olhão – 25 minutes east of the roadsurfer station, in the car park you will find a small station to fill and empty water. There are also laundry facilities here.

To ensure a smooth return process at our Faro location, please remember to fill up with diesel and AdBlue at the end of your trip. You can do both at the nearest BP petrol stations to our location:

Motorways in Portugal are toll roads. They are either equipped with booths to pay on-site or are electronic toll roads:

• Payment on-site: You can pay the toll conventionally at the exit of most roads. Please pay attention to the signs marked with a “V” (Via Verde) on green background, as those are reserved for people with transponders, and you should not drive on these roads if you don’t have one.
• Electronic toll roads: Our campervans with Portuguese plates are already registered on the electronic toll system. You can check your outstanding payments on this website by inputting the number plate. Please keep in mind that it can take up to 48 hours until it appears in the system. Alternatively, payments can be made at post offices and shops marked with “Payshop” flags.
• If you are driving from outside of Portugal, it is important to register the car on the Easytoll system. As soon as you enter Portugal, you will pass through a toll booth. There is an entrance for non-Portuguese vehicles on the side where you will receive a receipt with an identification number and your number plates. When you drive through electronic toll roads, your plate will be scanned. From then onwards, the process is the same as for the Portuguese number plates mentioned above.
• Alternatively, you can register digitally with Easytoll before you enter the country. The time you are allowed to spend on toll roads is limited and spending the night at a rest stop is not advisable.

There are also free roads, marked with “EN” but the travelling time might double if you choose them.

For a one-stop shopping location, in case you need to pick up anything you might have forgotten to pack, head to MAR shopping. It is a six-minute drive from the roadsurfer rental station, where you’ll find clothing shops, a Pingo Doce supermarket, an organic food shop, and even an IKEA! In Faro itself, find our supermarket picks listed below. There are also plenty of pharmacies in the centre of Faro to choose from, and a Decathlon for any outdoor clothing and sportswear you’ve forgotten.

There are few places to grab a drink and a bite to eat near the roadsurfer station in Faro. You can make the short drive into the centre of Faro and pick one of the many local cafes with outdoor seating, or if you need somewhere en route out of the city, there is a Starbucks at the Forum shopping centre on the outskirts of Faro.
