Renting an RV in Bergamo for the first time or new to camping? Below you’ll find all the information you need for your road trip from Bergamo.
U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short tourist visits to Italy, including Bergamo. Here’s what you should know before your trip:
If you want to visit the city before you hit the open roads, finding parking in Bergamo Alta could prove to be a real challenge. As in almost all Italian historic centers, most of the streets are in ZTL, where you cannot transit unless you have a special permit. We therefore advise you to leave your motorhome rental in the lower town and continue to the center on foot or by public transportation (bus line 1).
The best solution is the Malpensata parking lot, on Via San Giovanni Bosco. This is a paid parking lot, but more convenient than those closer to the Upper Town (and on Sundays parking is free). It is about a half-hour walk to the city center.
Before you return your roadsurfer camper van, you can refill with diesel and AdBlue at one of these convenient gas stations near our location here:
Please note: The AdBlue service station information provided is for guidance only and is provided without warranty of any kind; customers are advised to check the information for accuracy on their own responsibility, as roadsurfer assumes no liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the information.
Before setting off, fill up your fresh water tank so you can use the tap, shower and toilet. Please empty the grey water tank before returning your campervan(e.g.Caravanpark – Carico e Scarico Camper, Via Tofane, 24044 Dalmine, BG), the easiest place is at your campsite, a petrol station, or a service point. Each campervan also comes with a collapsible canister in case no hose is available.
Tip: Most motorway service areas in Italy have an “area camper” where you can empty grey and black water, and sometimes refill fresh water.
The best times for RV rental in Bergamo are undoubtedly when the heat is not yet scorching, and the city is not overrun by tourists. Between May and June, temperatures are pleasant, and on clear days, you can even spot Milan Cathedral in the distance. Early autumn is also a great time to visit Bergamo: the surrounding nature is transformed into a riot of colors and offers the perfect setting for a hike or bike ride.
If you enjoy city festivals, three weeks before Easter is the Festa di Mezza Laresima, during which a parade of floats of all kinds moves through the streets of the lower city. For food and wine lovers, the St. Alexander’s Fair in late August celebrates the city’s patron saint. The event, dedicated entirely to the world of agriculture, is a great place to participate in tastings and exhibitions.
