Calgary is a delight all year round (if a little chilly in winter), but if you’re planning a visit, there are certain times when the city truly shines.
The Calgary International Beerfest kicks off in May, boasting over 500 different beers from all over the globe. Then, the city hosts the world-famous Calgary Stampede, a ten-day rodeo extravaganza held in July. Fall brings the Calgary International Film Festival (late September / early October), showcasing over 200 films from Canada and around the world.
And if you can handle the cold, don’t miss out on catching a Calgary Flames hockey game during the winter months.
Like most cities, it pays to know where you can and can’t park in Calgary if you want to avoid a hefty fine. In relation to downtown, practically all parking is subject to meters, with lower rates after 6pm and on weekends. Note that street parking is free after 6pm on Sundays and certain holidays.
For parking in an undercover garage (known as ‘parkades’ in Canada), look for the Park Plus or Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) signs represented by a large green P. These parking garages can be as cheap as $3 – $5 USD for an entire day on Saturdays. For more info about the best parking spots for your motorhome rental in Calgary, you can also download the local MyParking App for free.
Looking to rent a camper van in Calgary and go camping? Look no further! You’ll be spoilt for choice with a variety of camping options in and around the city, from National Parks to privately-owned campgrounds.
For a rustic camping experience, check out the Tunnel Mountain Village Campground in Banff National Park or the Bow River Campground in Kananaskis Country. If you prefer full-service facilities, consider staying at one of Calgary’s privately-owned campgrounds such as the Mountain View Camping or Balzac Campground.
