When you hire a campervan in Madrid you can be on the road right away, trusting that your roadsurfer home on wheels is fully stocked. Your campervan comes with an awning, camping table and two chairs to enjoy the space outside of your vehicle. The kitchen box allows you to save money on eating out: you’ve got all the pots, pans, and utensils to cook up your own meals. There’s even a corkscrew and bottle opener, and a cafetière plus mugs for your morning coffee or tea, although you’ll want to bring dish towels, sponges, and eco-friendly dish soap. When you rent a small motorhome from Madrid you will need to bring your own bedding, or you can hire what you need from the station. Full details of what’s included in your motorhome hire and our suggestions on what to bring along to your Madrid campervan holiday can be found in the equipment list.
The perfect time to rent a campervan in Madrid and experience the city and beyond at a pleasant 18-25 degrees Celsius is during the off-season in April to June or September to October. If you like to party, May is the best month for you, as Madrid hosts numerous street festivals, such as the Fiesta de San Isidro. We recommend avoiding the summer months as they often exceed 35 degrees Celsius and are not necessarily suitable for a city trip.
Emptying the grey water is one of the last steps before returning your campervan rental from roadsurfer. This is not always an easy task as there are not many emptying areas, even in the capital city, which is why we make it easier for you with these addresses below that offer wastewater emptying facilities (please note that some service areas charge):
At the end of your trip, you will have to fill up your vehicle with a full tank of diesel and AdBlue. The closest location where you can do both is at a nearby BP station:
Please note: The AdBlue service station information provided is for guidance only and is provided without warranty of any kind; customers are advised to check the information for accuracy on their own responsibility, as roadsurfer assumes no liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the information.
When you pick up your campervan rental in Madrid, it is highly likely you want to explore the city before you set off on your road trip. You can park in the paid parking blue and green zones, or you can also park in a covered carpark but be careful with the height!
If you want to drive into the city centre, it’s best to park off the M30 and then take public transport to the centre of Madrid. This way, you are more likely to find a free parking space, and it will also be less stressful. You will find car parks in Marqués de Vadillo and south of the Manzanares. You can also park your motorhome at the Almendrales metro station in Usera.
In the busiest areas, such as hospitals, cinemas, or shopping centres, there are often people who will help you park in exchange for a small fee. You can decide on your own if you want to pay them, or not, but our advice is to give them a little tip.
You don’t have to register a toll system for your roadsurfer vehicle when you drive in Spain, and you can decide whether to use a toll-free motorway or a (private) toll road.
The private ones are marked with an “R” or “AP” and a toll sign on the traffic signs. Toll roads can be paid at the toll booth by credit card or cash. Please pay attention and do not drive through the “Telepeaje” booths, as those are only for cars with a transponder installed. You can check which ones are toll roads and how much they cost here.
Book a unique camping experience to go with your colourful campervan. Use roadsurfer spots to find a private camping spot on your route with all the necessities and amenities you need. Drive to the coast to relax and unwind on private pitches next to the beach or wake up in pure nature with easy access to hiking trails.
