Welcome to Milan, a melting pot of cultures that mixes the old and new of Italy. Here is some information to get you started when you rent a campervan in Milan, to ensure you have the best holiday ever.
The best time to hire a campervan in Milan depends on your interests. If you’re a fashion lover then the fashion weeks in February and September are the ideal time to go, although the city does get quite crowded. The winter is the best time to escape the crowds at museums and historical sites, and the Christmas markets are magical. For those wanting to do outdoor activities, April – July, and September – October have pleasant weather for being out in the open. Avoid August – many locals go on holiday at this time, and local businesses and attractions are closed.
When you hire a campervan in Milan, you’ll need to fill up with freshwater at the start of your journey and empty your wastewater at the end. The closest place to the roadsurfer rental station is 10km from our station at the Carico & Scarico Camper parking facilities (21047 Saronno, Province of Varese, MI), just after the Saronno Sud Station. Alternatively, a 20 minutes drive south at an Esso petrol station off the E62 (A8, Villoresi Ovest, 20020 Lainate MI).
You must return your hired campervan with a full tank of diesel and ensure that the AdBlue is filled up. The nearest petrol station where you can do both is:
Please note: The AdBlue service station information provided is for guidance only and is provided without warranty of any kind; customers are advised to check the information for accuracy on their own responsibility, as roadsurfer assumes no liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the information.
In Milan, as in other cities in Italy, there are ZTL zones, where most vehicles are not allowed to enter or are subject to a tax or even a fine. If you use these streets when you are allowed, you will need a Zone C ticket.
To visit the city, we recommend the Lampugnano car park, which is only 20 minutes away from the roadsurfer station. From this car park you can take the Metro Line 1 to the centre of Milan.
There are different parking areas in Milan: white (free), blue (paying) and yellow (reserved for residents).
If you need to buy food and essentials for your campervan rental in Milan, here are our recommendations for where to go.
Italy is well known for their espresso, so why not get one before you set off on your road trip? Head to Pertugia Café (Corso della Vittoria, 406, 21042 Caronno Pertusella VA) for a coffee. Or if it’s a meal you’re after, try Donna Pe (Corso della Vittoria, 1534, 21042 Caronno Pertusella VA).
Camping in Milan is difficult but there are campsites not far from the city centre where you can leave your roadsurfer and travel in by public transport.
