If you’re kicking off your road trip in Germany from Erfurt, we have some tips to help you plan your journey with your campervan rental.
When you hire a campervan in Erfurt you can be on the road right away, trusting that your roadsurfer home on wheels is fully stocked. Your campervan comes with an awning, camping table and two chairs to enjoy the space outside of your vehicle. The kitchen box allows you to save money on eating out: you’ve got all the pots, pans, and utensils to cook up your own meals. There’s even a corkscrew and bottle opener, and a coffee pot, plus mugs for your morning coffee or tea, although you’ll want to bring dish towels, sponges, and eco-friendly dish soap. When you rent a small motorhome from Erfurt you will need to bring your own bedding, or you can hire what you need from the roadsurfer station. Full details of what’s included in your motorhome hire, and our suggestions on what to bring along to your Erfurt campervan holiday can be found in the equipment list.
You can hire a campervan in Erfurt at any time of year, but the spring, summer, and autumn months are ideal for extended hikes, nature observation, and outdoor activities.
Between April and September, the weather is pleasantly mild, nature is in full bloom, and the temperatures are warm enough for outdoor pursuits. In April, consider visiting the Erfurt Spring Festival, and in June, enjoy the Krämerbrücken Festival, the largest Old Town festival in Thuringia. From September to November, temperatures remain mild, offering optimal conditions for hiking or cycling tours amid the vibrant autumn landscape. During the low season, you’ll benefit from less crowded campsites and lower prices.
To refill your fresh water tank before you hit the road or to empty your grey water tank before you head back with your campervan rental, we suggest using the “Tor zur Stadt Erfurt” motorhome site at the P+R Messe car park. Fresh water is available for €0.10 per 10 litres, and there’s a toilet cassette disposal machine for €3 per use (which includes grey water). This service is accessible 24/7.
