Start your journey at the birthplace of Mozart and explore the baroque old town of Salzburg while enjoying a few sweet Mozartkugeln. See the Hellbrunn Waterworks Palace with its beautiful gardens, feast on Salzburger Nockerl dumplings, and find the 5 gherkins on your walk through the city. After your visit to the city, pick up your campervan and discover the surrounding area of Salzburg with its idyllic towns such as Hallstatt and Zell am See. Here you can spend exciting days in nature with a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and water sports. Here are some helpful tips to help you plan your trip with your campervan hire in Salzburg.
The best time to hire a campervan in Salzburg depends entirely on your travel preferences. Basically, you can visit Salzburg at any time of year, even in winter. Salzburg is known for its beautiful Christmas markets and winter events, such as the New Year’s Eve concerts on Residenzplatz, the Mozart Week, and the Perchten runs. The region around Salzburg also offers a picturesque winter landscape with mountains and ski resorts that are ideal for winter activities such as hiking or skiing. However, you should bear in mind that not all campsites are open in the winter months from December to February.
If you prefer a classic summer road trip, you should hire a campervan in Salzburg from June to August. The summer months are perfect if you want to experience the lively atmosphere of the city and its summer events, such as the Summer Scene in June and the Salzburg Festival in July and August. With summer temperatures, you can enjoy long days in the countryside at this time and explore the beautiful lakes in the Salzburg region, such as Wolfgangsee, Fuschlsee, Mondsee, Salzachsee, and Zeller See.
Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, are also ideal for a road trip from Salzburg. The temperatures are mild to warm, the roads and campsites are less crowded than in summer, and you can enjoy the colourful spring or autumn landscape and your bike in the entire Salzburg region.
We recommend staying overnight at a campsite where you can empty your grey and black water tank before returning the campervan.

Car parks in the city centre: Salzburg has several car parks in the city centre, such as the Parkhaus Altstadtgarage, the Parkgarage Linzergasse, and the Parkgarage Kajetanerplatz. You can park here with our smaller campervans, but you should be aware of the height restrictions for motorhomes.
Car parks outside the city centre: There are parking lots just outside the city centre that are better suited for motorhomes, such as the parking lot at the Salzburg exhibition grounds (Messezentrum Salzburg).
P+R car parks: Park-and-ride car parks are also a good option, as you can easily take public transport to the city centre from here. You can use the following P+R parking lots:
