U.S. citizens need a valid passport to enter Spain, preferably valid for at least six months beyond your entry date. For stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, no visa is required under the Schengen Agreement.
As of now, ETIAS is not yet required. It is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026 and will include a transitional phase and a grace period (each potentially six months), allowing travelers time to adapt before it becomes fully mandatory.
Upon arrival in Barcelona—or any Spanish entry point—you may be asked to show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds. Any stay longer than 90 days requires a national visa.
Please always check official government or embassy websites for the latest entry rules before traveling.
If you would like to visit Barcelona, the best thing to do is park outside of the city center and visit the Catalan capital by public transit. If you do want to park in the city, try the free parking in the university area or near Montjuic. You can also look for paid blue zone parking in more central areas, but it’s not that easy. You don’t pay for blue zone parking in Barcelona on Sundays.
The most expensive but the safest parking options in Barcelona are the underground car parks. Please be aware of the minimum height requirement when you go to park your RV or camper van rental.

Barcelona, like any other Spanish city, is worth visiting at any time of the year, but during the summer months, the city is indeed very crowded with tourists. We recommend renting your RV or camper van in Barcelona for some time between May and June, as the temperatures start to rise, the tourist crowds are still ok, and there are several events in the city.
Summer in Barcelona is anything but calm and relaxed. There are tourists from all over the world, high temperatures accompanied by crowded beaches, and the prices of everything tend to rise due to the high season.
During autumn and winter, it’s very likely to rain, but being a city located directly on the Mediterranean, temperatures remain stable. Plus, there are fewer tourists during this time.
