Nordstadt (Northern parts of the city): Hanover’s student quarter
Location of Leibniz University with the “Welfenschloss” as its main building. That is a huge part of this neighborhood. You run into a mass of students like nowhere else. You will feel taken back to your own time at university. As you can imagine, the highest density of bicycles is found here as well. If you squint, you feel like you are in Amsterdam with its long lines of bicycles.
Nordstadt is one of the greenest are in town.“Herrenhaeuser” Gardens are close by and its huge park including the castle from the 17th century, which brings a kind of French familiarity to the north of Germany. In addition to the park and the large garden, there are many small gardens to discover such as “Berggarten”, “Georgengarten” and “Welfengarten”, which are all incredibly peaceful. If you want to visit the castle, you have to pay 8 Euro entrance fee and it is worth it.
Hanover Mitte: The epicenter of this town
The center of Hanover is simply called “Mitte” (translated as middle). Many important sights of the city are located in this area. In order for you to discover every inch and sight of this part, there is a “Roter Faden” that leads you across the district and past the most important attractions. It is like a city tour but without any guide. Starting point is the main station, where you can pick up your campervan. So why not start right away? If you are interested, you can buy an accompanying booklet with a practical map, helpful insider knowledge and historical information just for three Euro. Head towards the Opera House and the New Town Hall, that way it is easier.
“Maschsee”: The heart of Hanover
Even though it is not the city center, the lake is regarded one of the main attractions of Hanover. The “Maschpark” is located right behind the town hall. Just stroll around and enjoy the sun and the water front. If you want to be active, rent a boat, a kayak or a sailing boat and head out.

This is the most central camping site in Hanover. The city has made space for campers in one of the most beautiful areas. If you want to wake up to a quite, peaceful morning, but still remain in the center of a bustling city, “Herrenhausen” Gardens is you address. There are eight parking spaces for your campervan on a short strip, so head there fast.
- Camping “Blue Lake”
If you like a rather rural spot to camp, park your rental campervan directly at the shore of the lake. Sand, greenery and water will help to feel right at home in nature. This is an amazing site for the actively sporty people, since there is a water ski and surfing facility. Head to “Garbsen” where the site is located. If you want to check it out first, take the bus number 126 and the Uestra Line number 4, which takes you there in a few minutes.
- Camping at “Lake Arnumer”
You really want to enjoy your stay at a camping site and make the most of your visit? Come and visit “Lake Arnumer” in the middle of a recreational area. In the immediate vicinity of Hanover, walkers, cyclists, fishermen and families will get their money’s worth. There are several small camping areas right at the lake with the most wonderful view.
