Best time of year to visit Amsterdam

Spring and late summer are beautiful in the Netherlands, making April, May, and September the best months to rent a camper van or Class C RV in Amsterdam. You’ll also find the Tulip Festival and National Restaurant Week in April, while September hosts the city’s Fringe Festival. In the summer months, the hours of sunshine increase but so do the crowds. In November, January, and February, you’ll find fewer tourists and great prices, perfect for those on a budget.

Filling and emptying water tanks in Amsterdam

You’ll need to fill up the freshwater tank at the beginning of your trip and empty your grey water at the end. This can be done at a campground, but if you need a dedicated area, Amsterdam has one of the only RV dump stations in the Netherlands where you can do both of these things.

  • Haan petrol station, Fortuinweg 3, 1544 VX Zaandijk

Parking in Amsterdam

When you rent a camper van or Class C RV in Amsterdam, you’ll find that parking in the city center is expensive and doesn’t always accommodate the size of your vehicle. Amsterdam has a great Park & Ride system, and if you park after 10 am and begin your return journey to the city center zone, you’ll be entitled to discounted parking of €1 for the day plus the cost of your travel card. Their website has all the info, as well as a tool to see the current capacity of all their Park + Ride venues.
