When road tripping in Las Vegas, don’t limit yourself to the Strip. Consider renting a camper van to explore Nevada’s dramatic desert landscapes and beyond. Visit the towering sandstone peaks of Red Rock Canyon in the Mojave Desert, just minutes from downtown, or stand at the edge of the Hoover Dam before heading west toward California’s coast. Planning to continue beyond Nevada? This Las Vegas to California road trip guide outlines a scenic route with suggested stops, realistic driving times, and must-see highlights along the way. From the Grand Canyon and Death Valley to Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Southwest opens up quickly once you hit the road in an RV.
American citizens don’t need to worry about a visa. However, the following guide applies to all AU, UK and EU citizens (including those from Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, and Croatia):
If you’re booking an RV rental in Las Vegas, consider aligning your trip with some of the city’s major events.
Experience the high-octane thrill of NASCAR Weekend (March) or dance up a storm at the Las Vegas Electric Daisy Carnival (May). If you plan on coming later in the year, you can saddle up and watch the National Finals Rodeo (December), which attracts the world’s top cowboys and cowgirls.
Just keep in mind that summers can be extremely hot (often reaching 110°F or higher). The shoulder seasons of spring and fall, on the other hand, offer more moderate temperatures for outdoor activities.
Several gas stations are located close to the Las Vegas roadsurfer station for easy refueling before return. Depending on your camper model, you will need petrol or diesel, and some vehicles also require DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). Check your vehicle details in advance to confirm the correct fuel type. DEF can be purchased at most Walmart and Target locations. Here are the nearest fuel and propane refill locations to our Las Vegas station:
Before returning your camper van rental, please make sure to empty your grey and black water tanks. There are several dump stations located within a short driving distance of the Las Vegas roadsurfer station.
Many RV parks and campgrounds around Las Vegas also provide water and waste disposal facilities, which can be a convenient option before returning your camper van or Class C RV rental.
Renting a motorhome in Las Vegas is all fun and games… until you need to park in the city. Fortunately, you can find relatively cheap open-air parking with no height restrictions at various casinos.
The Plaza Hotel and Casino, for example, has an oversized parking area for both hotel and non-hotel guests. There’s also super convenient RV parking at Circus Circus, which is the only RV park on the Strip. As for parking outside of the city, all National and State Parks offer RV parking for multiple days. Just remember that in peak season, parking at various natural landmarks can fill up quickly, so make sure to arrive early.
You can park a motorhome in most public car parks (double-check height restrictions before entering!) in Denver for up to 72 hours. But as it’s such an easy city to explore on foot, with popular attractions like 16th Street Mall, the Museum of Illusions, and the historic Larimer Square all located close together, we recommend camping outside the city and using public transport to get in. If you’re traveling with family, children up to 19 can travel for free on local public transport. This makes RV rental in Denver even more relaxed and cost-effective.
Camping in and around Las Vegas is a remarkable experience. Just beyond the city’s vibrant lights, you’ll find a host of RV-friendly campgrounds surrounded by natural beauty.
The Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers diverse landscapes and lakeside camping spots. Valley of Fire State Park, renowned for its red sandstone formations, accommodates RVs at Atlatl Rock and Arch Rock campgrounds.
Our pick of the bunch for anyone renting a camper van in Las Vegas to explore the Grand Canyon is Mather campground. Not only does it offer lots of privacy (despite being quite popular), but it’s also close to hiking trails, such as the scenic Rim Trail, as well as shuttle bus services to various lookout spots that offer sweeping views over this majestic natural wonder.
Las Vegas is more than bright lights and casinos—your RV rental opens up a world of adventure just beyond the city. Here are some of the best places to visit near Las Vegas:
