Visa & Travel Requirements

U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short tourist visits to the Netherlands. Here’s what you should know before your trip:

  • Americans can visit the Netherlands and other Schengen Area countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa.
  • You must have a valid U.S. passport. It’s recommended that your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area.
  • Border officials may ask for proof of onward travel or a return ticket, confirmation of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay.
  • The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area, allowing seamless travel between member countries during your visit.
  • Starting in 2025, Americans will need ETIAS approval to enter the Netherlands and other Schengen countries. Be sure to apply online before your trip once ETIAS is in effect.

RV Parking in Amsterdam

When you rent a camper van or Class C RV in Amsterdam, you’ll find that parking in the city center is expensive and doesn’t always accommodate the size of your vehicle. Amsterdam has a great Park & Ride system, and if you park after 10 am and begin your return journey to the city center zone, you’ll be entitled to discounted parking of €1 for the day plus the cost of your travel card. Their website has all the info, as well as a tool to see the current capacity of all their Park + Ride venues.

  • P+R RAI, Europaboulevard, 1078 GZ Amsterdam
  • P+R Zeeburg 1, Piet Heintunnel, 1095 KN Amsterdam
  • P+R ArenA, Burgemeester Stramanweg 130, 1101 EP Amsterdam
  • Parkeerplaats, Europaboulevard, Amsterdam – this is not a Park +Ride venue, which will be useful if you don’t want to go into the city center. Take the tram from Drentepark tram stop, around a 5-minute walk. Parking is free on weekends and public holidays but otherwise €2.50 per hour.

Nearby Gas Stations

Before you return your roadsurfer camper van, you can refill with diesel and AdBlue at one of these convenient gas stations near our location here:

  • BP Gas Station, Lakenblekerstraat 5, 1431 GE Aalsmeer

Please note: The AdBlue service station information provided is for guidance only and is provided without warranty of any kind; customers are advised to check the information for accuracy on their own responsibility, as roadsurfer assumes no liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the information.

Water Tank Info

You’ll need to fill up the freshwater tank at the beginning of your trip and empty your grey water at the end. This can be done at a campground, but if you need a dedicated area, Amsterdam has one of the only RV dump stations in the Netherlands where you can do both of these things.

  • Haan petrol station, Fortuinweg 3, 1544 VX Zaandijk
