From Edinburgh City Centre: From the city centre, take bus X18, X38 or X24 from “Princes Street” to “Ratho Station”. From here, it’s a 3-minute walk to the roadsurfer station.

There’s no need to bring your whole kitchen with you when you hire a small motorhome from roadsurfer. Our kitchen box included with your motorhome rental has all the kitchen equipment you’ll need for your trip, meaning you can save money and cook in your home on wheels rather than go out to eat. You’ll find pots and pans, utensils, cutlery and plates, plus a cafetière and mugs for your morning brew. Your campervan also comes with an awning and a camp table and chairs to help you make the most of your outdoor living space. You’ll need to bring your own bedding or book some when you book your van, and there are plenty of other extras you can add too – see the full details in our equipment list on our website.
The best time to hire a campervan in Edinburgh is April to June, when flowers bloom and nature wakes up from her Winter slumber but before the roads get too busy with summer traffic. In September and October the surrounding countryside will begin to shed its summer bounty turning the forests to dazzling shades of red and yellow, whilst still being warm enough to enjoy #vanlife.
Of course, while summer is the busiest season, it’s also festival time: August sees the Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Edinburgh International Festival all taking place in the city, and the summer weather makes it the perfect time to roam the city in search of entertainment. Remember that in Edinburgh there is always a chance of rain, so bring your waterproofs whatever the season.
When you hire a campervan in Edinburgh you’ll need to fill up your water tank with fresh water at the beginning of your drive, and empty your waste water before returning to the station. CaMPA have a map showing waste water and fresh water sites in Scotland, and UK Motorhomes have a directory of facilities in the UK (you’ll need to scroll down to the Scotland section). The closest one to the roadsurfer station is a 30 minute drive north over the Forth Bridge. If this doesn’t fit with your route then the best option may be to make sure you start and end your trip with a stay at a campsite that offers these facilities.

Most city centre car parks are limited to 4 hours. George Street, Queen Street will cost you around £4.60 per hour. Parking in the city centre is free on Sundays before 12:30 p.m. and on certain public holidays.
When you rent a roadsurfer campervan in Edinburgh you’ll find everything you need inside, but you will need to stock up on food! There are plenty of options to choose from depending on what else you might need:
Fuel yourself as well as your campervan for the trip ahead. Other than the options listed in the ‘essentials’ section, there is a Greggs around the corner from the roadsurfer station (Newbridge Industrial Estate, U10D, Cliftonhall Rd, Newbridge EH28 8PJ).
If you want to drive a little further then Brew Culture in Queensferry (31A High St, South Queensferry EH30 9PP) does great coffee and is perfectly situated for those heading over the Firth of Forth. The Wee Winchburgh Café (41 Main St, Winchburgh, Broxburn EH52 6RA) is a 10 minute drive northwest, ideal for those aiming for Loch Lomond and beyond.
You might not be ready to start a long drive the day you pick-up your campervan rental from our Edinburgh station. Linwater Caravan Park is a quick 10 minute drive from our location, great for anyone picking up their van late in the day or needing to drop their van off first thing in the morning. Gallowhill Caravan and Camping Park is a 30 minute drive, perfect for those heading over the Forth Bridge. Heading West? Carr’s Hill is 30 minutes away.
To rent a campervan or motorhome in the UK, you must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license for a minimum of one year.
For all UK registered renters, a driver license check is compulsory at the time of pick-up at one of our UK stations in order to be fully covered by our insurance package.
If you are registered in the UK and have more than 6 points on your driving license and/or with specific past driving convictions you will not be able to drive our vehicles.
For this purpose, if you are renting in the UK you will need to provide the following:
You can enter the required information on the website http://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence in advance and generate a check code and show it at the time of pick-up at the station. Please note that this code is only valid for 21 days.
Drivers with a driver’s license from other European countries picking up our vehicles in any UK station are not subject to the driver license check.
