Visa & Travel Requirements

U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short tourist visits to Germany. Here’s what you should know if you’re planning to travel:

  • Americans can visit Germany and other Schengen Area countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business without a visa.
  • You must have a valid U.S. passport with at least six months’ validity beyond your planned stay, and proof of onward travel or return ticket may be requested upon arrival.
  • If you plan to travel from Germany to other European countries, check the entry requirements for each country, as rules may vary.
  • Beginning in 2025, U.S. travelers will need to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) approval online before arrival. The process is simple and similar to an ESTA for the U.S.

Best Time to Visit Berlin

With an average temperature of 41°F in winter and 71°F in summer, Berlin is a great travel destination all year round. After exploring the city, you should definitely visit the surrounding area with your camper van rental!

The A10 bypasses the capital which makes it the ideal starting point. Heading southwest, you can visit Potsdam and the many lakes in Havilland. You can then continue south on the A9 to Leipzig and Dresden, perhaps even to Thuringia and Munich in Bavaria if time allows.

You can plan your journey to the north via the A24, A11, and A20. How about a trip to the Baltic Sea coast to Stettin, Stralsund, Rostock, Lübeck, or perhaps Hamburg? You can even travel to Scandinavia by camper van from Berlin!

You can take the E65 and E30 to Warsaw. Or you can drive towards Gdansk to the sea. From there, it’s just a short drive to Lithuania. Discover the charm of Eastern European history on your journey in one of our roadsurfer camper vans or Class C RVs.
