La Colline de Fourvière

Due to its history, the hill is also known as the “praying hill” or “Colline qui prie”. Here, you can admire an unparalleled view of Lyon. The perfect location to gain a panoramic view of the city. On this hill, you can visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, which forms part of the UNESCO cultural heritage and is a real iconic landmark of Lyon. But you’ll have to undertake a small climb do get there – either up challenging steps or through the surrounding, fairly steep streets. For the less agile among us, you can reach the Basilica from the old town via a small funicular railway.

The old town: Le Vieux Lyon

Le Vieux Lyon is one of the most popular districts with visitors. Is it due to its unique charm? You too will succumb to the city’s charm as you stroll through the narrow streets with the colourful facades of medieval buildings. A detour to Rue Saint-Jean is most definitely worthwhile, and you should absolutely take a wander through the surrounding little streets. Don’t miss the various art galleries and the famous Traboules – the secret passageways which allow pedestrians to pass from one street to the other under cover.

The market at Plateau de la Croix Rousse

The geographical location of Lyon adds somewhat to the attraction of the city. Lyon is surrounded by fertile agricultural regions, which are characterised by their great culinary diversity, including Bourgogne, La Bresse and the Drôme department. Visiting one of the markets is quite simply the thing to do in Lyon, so you can get your hands on some high-quality regional produce to sample during your trip with the motorhome. In particular, we recommend taking a wander around the market in the Plateau du Croix Rousse district. The market covers several kilometres and here you’ll be able to sample a broad range of regional or even organic products and produce. And on top of that, you can take advantage of the local atmosphere, as this is where you’ll experience this charming working-class district of Lyon from its authentic side. Stroll through the streets on the slopes of the Croix Rousse district. Only those who managed to climb the Grande-Côte get to know Croix-Rousse’s true colours!
