3-Day Road Trip in the Palatinate Wine Region (85 kilometers)

best road trips through Germany vineyards

The German Wine Route is only 85 kilometers long and can easily be discovered on a long weekend. The route leads – as the name suggests – through the wine-growing regions of the Palatinate. The three-day roadtrip begins at the German Wine Gate in the municipality of Schweigen-Rechtenbach, which is also known for its good wine taverns. From here you can continue through the Vorderpfalz, past historic and wildly romantic towns such as Bad Bergzabern or Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach. Absolutely worth seeing are also the Hambach Castle or the Wachtenburg, which can be discovered on this route.

Along the entire route, the best Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris as well as Riesling wines tempt you to test and stay for a while. Finally, the driver is allowed to enjoy a drop of good wine at the House of the German Wine Route in Bockenheim the latest.

By the way, this road trip is not only recommended for wine lovers. The region is regarded as one of the most sundrenched areas of Germany and guarantees the most hours of sunshine until late autumn.

Amalfi Coast or Route 66? They can give up! We have the German Alpine Road – the “most beautiful road in Germany” – which crosses beautiful Bavaria from Lindau on Lake Constance to the Austrian border in Schönau on Lake Königssee. Everyone should have seen this beautiful spot once. But what exactly makes this road so unique? It’s variety. From mountain lakes to picturesque villages and idyllic valleys to gigantic mountain panoramas, here nature shows what it has to offer. Drive via Bad Hindelang to Füssen where you can visit the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

The route continues to Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A stop in Bad Tölz or Rottach-Egern is also worthwhile. Afterwards, you can relax at the Tegernsee and the Schliersee. After 450 kilometers you will arrive at your destination in Schönau. Although the Königssee is really worth a trip at any time of the year, it shows its true beauty especially in autumn.

7-day Road Trip From the Wadden Sea to Rügen (557 kilometers)

Sometimes we forget how beautiful nature is in Germany. But this 7-day roadtrip will remind you of it again – Every single day! We start at the Wadden Sea of Lower Saxony. Here you should already plan enough time because the natural wonder is always worth a hike.

The route takes you through cities such as Bremen, Lübeck, Wismar and Stralsund. It’s worth checking the cities’ event calendars before your trip, as there’s always an autumn festival celebrated somewhere.

It continues with breathtaking nature. The route leads from here directly to great coastal landscapes and sweet villages. The destination is Sassnitz on Rügen. For the peninsula you should absolutely plan enough time. The Jasmund National Park offers almost Caribbean feeling and was not declared without case as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

14-day Road trip Along the German Avenue Road (2,900 kilometers)

10 states in 14 days! The German Avenue Road from Rügen to Lake Constance shows how varied our small country can be. From Rügen we continue via Dessau to Duderstadt. It follows one of the most beautiful sections of the German Avenue Road: From Höxter to Bad Honnef you drive continuously under a gigantic canopy of leaves along huge avenues. Particularly in autumn, when the leaves have become colorful and the sun produces a unique light, the trip is a real natural spectacle. The entire route is not yet cultivated as an avenue, but the Deutsche Alleenstraße e.V. is eagerly working to preserve this important natural asset along the entire route.

But back to the tour! Those who have never been there before should definitely plan a longer stay at our next stop: Dresden. The city is not only known for its art and culture but also for its exciting nightlife. After Plauen follows another great avenue route to Fulda. Via Bad Kreuznach and Freudenstadt you reach your destination Reichenau – The largest island on Lake Constance. Especially in autumn it offers something culinary.

You don’t know yet which vehicle you should take on your road trip through Germany? Ok, bicycle would be an option! But a more comfortable way could be to hire a roadsurfer and to always have a holiday home with you!
