The roadsurfer station itself is in Prato, just northwest of Florence, and is 15-25 minutes from Florence’s Peretola airport or up to an hour from the central train station.

Getting to the station

From Florence Airport (FLR): From the airport, take bus LAM FI-PO toward “Prato centrale” for 16 stops to “Via delle Fonti 6”. From here, it’s a 6-minute walk to the roadsurfer station. Alternatively, you can take a 15-minute taxi or Uber from the airport.

From Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station: From the station, take the regional train (REG) to “Prato Centrale” (Trenitalia). From here, you can take a taxi or take the connecting bus LAM ROSSA toward “San Giorgio a colonica” for 13 stops to “Via delle Badie 5”. From here, it’s a 3-minute walk to the roadsurfer station.

Parking information

There is no long-term car parking near the roadsurfer station, so the easiest option is to leave your car at home and come by public transport. If this is not possible, there is long term parking at Florence airport, and at the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station.

Best time to hire a campervan in Florence

In the low season when there are fewer tourists, especially from March to June as well as September to October are considered the best time to hire a small motorhome or campervan in Florence. During these months, temperatures range from a pleasant 15 to 23 degrees from March to May and 22-28 degrees in June, September and October. Please note that during Easter and in August, the city can be very crowded and the waiting time for sightseeing is longer than at other times of the year.

We highly recommend the Festa della Rificolona, a beautiful lantern festival that you can view in the Piazza della S. Annunziata which takes place in September as well as the Biennale Mostra Mercato Internazionale dell’Antiquariato, a large international antiques fair held in Palazzo Corsino sull’Arno, that takes place every odd-numbered year in October.

Parking in Florence

As with many European cities, it’s best to avoid parking in the centre of Florence. Parking spaces are sparse and small, and Florence has a ZTL which you will be fined for driving in without specific permission – look out for the well-marked ZTL signs. Instead use public transport to explore Florence. Why not park at a train station on the outskirts of the city? If you must park in the city, the underground car park at Porta al Prato station (Via Elio Gabbuggiani, 7, 50144 Firenze) will fit campervans under 2 metres tall for around 20€ per 10 hours.
