If you walk through the garden you will reach an idyllic park. From the “Kaiserstallung” you keep waking and remain on the left side of the mighty pentagonal tower. Walk through a small gate to the upper bastion and the beautiful rose garden. In the lower garden of the castle you can marvel at the artfully arranged roundabouts of trees. Fürth is the closest city to Nuremberg and you probably remember it from one or two history lessons back in the high school days, because the first German railway used to drive between the two cities. But this city has more to offer than the historical breakthrough: more than 2,200 monuments and more than a 1,000 year history, green spaces, idyllic corners across town and a great old town center are reasons to visit. Get some proof by visiting.
Erlangen is seductive and close to Nuremberg. You should definitely take a break if you cross the city on your trip. The “Bergkirchweih” has its origin here. Hence, very good beer is available everywhere around town. That is what locals say. In that sense: Cheers to that!
Schwabach is considered the “Goldschlaeger” city. It is the smallest independent city in Bavaria and is present almost everywhere with its long history and traditional trade: it hosts five of the greatest companies that practice the rare art of gold-stamping and also is home to museum that explains how the precious metal is made and distributed across the globe. Learn about the craft of “Schwabacher Gold”. This alone is a reason for a detour.
You visited every corner in Nuremberg and its surroundings? Well, leave Germany with a good conscious. Take the motorway A9 in the direction of Munich and make your way across the Alps to Austria.
You want to cross the “Schwabenländle” Baden Wuerttemberg? Pass Stuttgart and continue to Zurich. It will only take four hours and you will reach Switzerland.
You like German beer? Of course, because it is the best in the world, but Czech Republic offers some tasty beer as well. Take the motorway A6 and E50 and you will reach Prague in about three hours. You will find a variety of sights, charming cities and good beer over there as well.
